Private aviation company Magellan Jets is presenting a 10-hour card deal, an offer meant to tie together Father’s Day and travel for the 2012 London Olympics.
Consumers can buy the 10 Hour Getaway Card that offers access to a private jet with only 10 hours’ notice for $35,600. Magellan is looking to push this opportunity via email and Web advertisements.
“The strategy behind this offer is to be able to offer a gift for fathers who fly privately, or are interested in testing the waters, at a reasonable price point,” said Joshua Hebert, CEO of Magellan Jets, Boston. “This 10-hour card is ideal for golf getaways, summer vacations around the world and a trip to the islands.
“We are not planning any other Father’s Day efforts, but we are gearing up for Olympic travel, which Dad may wish to use his new 10-hour card for,” he said. “Magellan Jets is preparing to accommodate the Olympic travel demands of clients around the world.”
Game on
The Father’s Day gift card can be purchased through Magellan Jets through the holiday, and is valid until Father’s Day 2013.
Consumers can call the company at 1-877-550-JETS.

The card allows consumers to choose between 10 aircrafts, access to the concierge department, order catering and arrange ground transportation.
Magellan Jets is hoping that gift card recipients will want to use them for Olympic travel this summer.
Although the price may sound steep, it is actually reasonable considering group rates, per Mr. Hebert.
A typical booking for 16 passengers flying from New York to London could run up to $128,000, he said.
As a bonus, consumers will be able to meet Millwall Football Club upon their arrival and receive complimentary gift bags filled with Olympic viewing materials.
By tying the promotion in with the Olympics, Magellan is incentivizing purchase as well as linking itself to one of the most-trafficked games in the world.
Sky-high bar
Magellan Jets has been pushing a few promotions lately, especially through digital means.
For example, Magellan Jets partnered with flash-sales site Rue La La to offer an exclusive discount on the private aviation company’s 25 Hour Jet Cards in an effort to build brand awareness.
For a limited time, consumers could buy 24 hours of private jet service plus a free bonus hour on the brand’s midsize, super midsize and large jets.
Magellan’s partnership with Rue La La was more of an attempt to broaden brand awareness than make its products more affordable, according to its president, Anthony Tivnan (see story).
Indeed, this effort could be for the same ploy. Magellan could be using the real-time Internet medium as a way to push last-minute deals to gain awareness and drive transactions.
“A 10-hour card is a great way for clients to try Magellan Jets’ products and services,” Mr. Hebert said. “Hopefully, many purchases will be made for this reason and we will have the opportunity to maintain these individuals as valued clients.”
